CORNWALL LIBRARY CELEBRATES FOOD WITH A FULL DAY FESTIVAL

On Saturday, June 14th , The Cornwall Free Library (30 Pine St, off Route 4, on the Green, Cornwall, Ct. 06753—Litchfield County) will host a full day (9:30 am-6 pm)of wondrous activities designed to delight the foodie within everyone, no matter what age nor what one’s particular food preferences nor interests may be

.

The centerpieces of this  Food Glorious Food Festival 08, a  benefit for the Library, will be two panels and a special wine tasting event. The first panel “Julia and Judith: Two Lives in Food”  brings noted editor and author Judith Jones to Cornwall.  Jones, author of “The Tenth Muse: My Life in Food” has been a major editor of cookbooks, perhaps most importantly, she edited  Julia Child’s masterpiece, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”  She will be talking with Alex Prud’Homme who is co-author with his late great aunt, Ms. Child herself, of her memoir, “My Life in France”.

A second panel discussion, to be led by radio host and Litchfield resident, Joseph Montebello, will address “Everything You’ve Always Wanted To Know About Restaurants: How They Work, Where to Eat…Globally, And More!”  Guests will feature Chris Prosperi, Chef/Owner of Metro Bis Restaurant in Simsbury, Ct., his wife Courtney Febbroriello author of the book “Wife of the Chef” and Peter Elliot, Food Editor-at-Large, Bloomberg News and co-author of  “Sirio: The Story of My Life and Le Cirque.”

Capping off the afternoon is a special wine tasting with Elin McCoy, who writes a monthly column for the Bloomberg News Service, has been a contributing editor to Food and Wine Magazine for 23 years and is author of  “ The Emperor Of Wine: The Rise of Robert M. Parker, Jr. and the Reign of American Taste.

Time to speak with each author and book signings will take place after each event.

At the Library, there will be an art exhibit of more than 30 artists’ works on food and dining including pieces by Curtis Hanson, Robert Andrew Parker, Marc Simont, Erica Prud’homme and Elizabeth Horowitz. Throughout the day a sale will take place of gently-used cookbooks and kitchen wares, all at bargain prices.  In addition, a Silent Auction will be ongoing featuring such wondrous things as a luncheon and demonstration of cooking and flower arranging for six at Carolyne Roehm’s Sharon home by Ms. Roehm to be given at a later date, an opportunity to bid on a special talk and tasting on the world of teas by Sebastian Beckwith, owner of  In Pursuit of Tea, a signed cookbook by Julia Child, lunch for two at The West Street Grill, gift certificates to Bantam Bakery, a day to work as a chef in the kitchen of Metro Bis restaurant and much more.

And of course, there will be delicious food to eat.  Box lunches and sandwiches will be sold under a tent next to the Library and local gourmet stores, caterers, and bake shops will be selling their best.  The local Cornwall Farmers’ Market will be present and all are welcome to bring their knives to be professionally sharpened on site.

There will be a special cooking class for children to get them started on their own love of food led by Torrington’s  “Cuisine with Jill Nicolson”.

The day will end with a most unusual cocktail party at 6 PM. Every hors d’oeuvre served will be made using a recipe from a cookbook in the Library’s current collection.  Each tray will include the name of the recipe and the book that it was taken from to inspire everyone to head into their kitchen and ……cook !
